The sitcom icon is best known for her role on One Day at a Time and later as a cast member of Touched by an Angel. When her G.M. executive father was transferred to California in the early seventies, Valerie enrolled at the Tami Lynn School to study acting. In 1975 she was cast in the role of Barbara Cooper in a new situation comedy, One Day at a Time. During her nine years on the show Valerie grew from a chubby, awkward teenager to a polished sex symbol. After dating actor Scott Colomby and director/producer, Steven Spielberg, she married rock star Eddie Van Halen. In 1981 she formed her own film company producing and starring in such films as Silent Witness and Shattered Vows. Bertinelli's own vows were shattered in 2001 when the good girl/bad boy couple separated.
