Her life story sounds like a Hollywood script--small-town girl finds success in the big city. But it really happened. After growing up in Burleson, Tex., Clarkson took her homemade CD and headed to California in search of her big break. After much disappointment, she moved back to Texas, where she worked as a cocktail waitress and vacuum salesperson. But in 2002, she entered the American Idol contest, and she sang her own song, "A Moment Like This," when she won it all. She has stayed at the top of the charts, most recently with the rocker "Since You've Been Gone," and she picked up two Grammies for her second disc, "Breakaway."
