Portrait of the edgy stand-up comic and actor who became famous after appearing on MTV commercials ranting about everything from Cindy Crawford to smoking. Growing up with many firefighters among his family and friends, his life changed when his cousin and five other firefighters died in a fire in 1999. He set up the Leary Firefighters Foundation and after 9/11 he established the Fund for New York's Bravest. His close relationship with firefighters led him to create his current hit TV show, Rescue Me, and his TV and film performances, which illuminate his complex persona, tackle both difficult and humorous issues.
